Capbreton is a cycling paradise. With over 200 km of bike paths in the Landes, the Vélodyssée passing just metres from the town centre, and landscapes between ocean, lake and pine forest, it's one of the best cycling destinations in south-west France.
La Vélodyssée (EuroVelo 1)
EasyThe Atlantic cycling route runs along the entire coast from Brittany to the Basque Country. The Landes section passes just a few hundred metres from the Pickle shop. From Capbreton, you can ride north (Vieux-Boucau, Mimizan) through the pine forest, or south towards Bayonne along the Adour river.
Pickle tip: Ideal on an e-bike to cover 40–60 km in a day. Bring water and snacks as there are few supply points in the forest.
Coastal Path Capbreton – Seignosse
EasyThe coastal bike path runs along the ocean from Capbreton harbour, past La Savane beach, through Hossegor and on to Seignosse beaches. The route is entirely flat and safe, separated from the road.

Landes Forest
ModerateThe forest paths under the maritime pines offer a unique setting. From Capbreton, you quickly reach trails leading to Seignosse lake, the Boudigau ponds or traditional Landes villages. The pine shade protects from the sun even in midsummer.
Pickle tip: An e-bike with good tyres easily handles the sandy sections. Electric assist makes you forget the soft sand.
Capbreton – Bayonne Coastal
ModerateRide along the coast south through Labenne and Tarnos, then reach Bayonne along the Adour river banks. The route alternates between dedicated bike paths and bike lanes on quiet secondary roads.
Pickle tip: Return by train from Bayonne station (bikes accepted off-peak hours). On an e-bike, the journey takes about 1.5 hours.
Harbour & Estacade Loop
Very easyShort and pleasant ride around Capbreton harbour and along the Estacade, the famous wooden pier. Pass the covered market, harbour restaurants and the town centre beaches.
Pickle tip: Perfect on a cruiser or with young children. Ideal for a first outing or an evening ride.

When to ride?
Early morning and late afternoon are best in summer. In spring and autumn, the paths are deserted — pure bliss. Avoid strong westerly wind days.
What to bring?
Helmet and lock available as options at the shop. Bring water, sunscreen and snacks for long rides. Swimsuit recommended — you'll definitely pass a beach.
Capbreton by bike: the cycling destination of the Landes
Capbreton benefits from an exceptional network of cycling paths. The town is crossed by the Vélodyssée (EuroVelo 1), the Atlantic cycling route connecting Brittany to the Basque Country. From the town centre, you can reach Hossegor in 10 minutes, the Landes forest in 5 minutes, and Bayonne in 1.5 hours — all on safe, dedicated paths.
The cycling paths around Capbreton are mostly flat and paved, suitable for all levels. Families with children particularly enjoy the coastal path (Capbreton–Seignosse, 12 km), entirely separated from traffic. More athletic riders prefer the long stretches of the Vélodyssée through the forest.
